Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About Gulf Island National Park Reserve

Yesterday I wrote about Gros Morne on the East Coast of Canada, and today I'm writing about Gulf Island National Park Reserve on the West Coast of Canada - two very beautiful and surprising National Parks in Canada!

  • Gulf Islands National Park Reserve is tucked between the British Columbia mainland (Vancouver) and Vancouver Island and includes 15 islands and numerous islets in the Salish Sea.
  • It is renowned for its rare Mediterranean-like climate.
  • Features dense coastal Douglas-fir forests, rare Garry oak meadows, and distinctive red-barked arbutus trees.
  • Supports a fragile ecosystem of endangered species. Aside from marine mammals, it is a haven for eagles, turkey vultures, and dozens of rare butterflies and plants.
  • The waters around Gulf Islands National park Reserve teem with seals, otters, orcas and porpoises.
  • During the summer you will experience Bioluminescence in all park waters (Plankton makes the ocean sparkle at night!)
  • There are many things to do in the Gulf Island National park Reserve including, boating, kayaking, biking, hiking, fishing, camping, geocaching, swimming and more!
It is clear a visit to Gulf Island National Park Reserve will leave you surrounded by beauty - you will find more information about it at this link.
