Tomorrow is Canada Day!

Since I have recently learned I am able to become a Canadian citizen because my ancestors were Canadians (Canada Bill C-3 - look it up - you too could be a Canadian!), this year I'm celebrating Canada Day! What is Canada Day, you ask? Well, Canada Day unites the nation of Canada every July 1, commemorating the anniversary of the Constitution Act of 1867. This pivotal act consolidated three territories into the single nation of Canada.

Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About Vuntut National Park

I have been surprised by how Canada has quite a few National Parks which are "remote" to say the least. I suppose considering how a large portion of Canada is in the "far North" I should not be surprised by this. Perhaps a more accurate way to say this would be to say I am so impressed by how Canada is choosing to preserve remote places - whether lots of people will travel there or not! Apparently in Canada National Parks are not just places for lots of people to spend their vacations, they are places of incredible beauty worth preserving and protecting - Vuntut National Park is one such place for sure!

Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About Ukkusiksalik National Park Reserve

While most National Parks are places where families are able to go and experience nature, beauty, and incredible places, I have learned Canada has some National Parks which are extremely remote, so much so you have fly or take a boat to them. Plus, some of these remote National Parks are also quite dangerous - due to Polar Bears. But remote and dangerous or not, Ukkusiksalik National Park Reserve is absolutely a park you want to know about, whether you ever visit it or not as it is a truly amazing place!

Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About Tuktut Nogait National Park

When I think about National Parks I picture the Great Smokey Mountains National Park and Lassen National Park in the US - as they are parks I'm very familiar with. The Smokies are one of the most-visited National Parks in the USA and while not many people visit Lassen each year it is amazing (it is where I met my husband, so of course, I love it!) But there is a National Park in Canada which is so remote it is rarely visited - it is Tuktut Nogait National Park and I'm writing about it today.

Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About Torngat Mountains National Park

If you enjoy visiting National Parks which are remote and only accessible by plane or boat, then Torngat Mountains National Park is the place for you as there are no roads into this National Park! But, do not fear, once you arrive there you will find there are so many amazing things for you to do and see making it absolutely worth the effort to visit this National Park!

Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About Thousand Islands National Park

When you think about visiting a National Park, you may think you have travel to an area far from where many people live to enjoy the park. While in some cases this is certainly true, when you think about planning a visit to Thousand Islands National Park in Ontario, you will find it is very possibly close to where you live!

Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About Sirmilik National Park

I have learned while most of Canada's National Parks are in places where you and your family are able to go and enjoy the beauty of nature and experiencing new things together, some of Canada's National Parks are places where very few people will be able to go due to how remote and "wild" these places are. Today I'm writing about one such place - Sirmilik National Park which in order to visit it you have to be, "entirely self-sufficient, requiring arrangements with licensed local outfitters." Even if this does not describe you (it does not describe me), learning about Sirmilik National Park will leave you in awe of such a magnificent place!

Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About Rouge National Urban Park

When I think about National Parks, I picture mountains, forests, animals, beaches, absolutely nature in its most beautiful places, but while Canada's National Parks typically fits my view of National Parks, one is different as it is an Urban Park. What is an "Urban" Park, you ask? Well, I asked the same question and learned the following about Rouge National Urban Park . . .

Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About Riding Mountain National Park

Yesterday I wrote about Qausuittuq National Park, which is a park you may not ever visit unless you are highly experienced, fully self-reliant, and prepared for extreme hazards, unpredictable river crossings, and polar bear encounters as it is in the very far North of Nunavut, but today I'm writing about a National Park your entire family is able to enjoy together and where they will make incredible memories for sure - Riding Mountain National Park!

Tomorrow - June 21st is National Indigenous People's Day in Canada!

When it comes to celebrating, this "Lost Canadian" is very happy to learn Canada values the truth and the First Peoples. As I've written before, Canada knows the truth and teaching it as it is makes us stronger while lies about difficult times in the past only make us weaker. Canada teaches Canadian children the truth about the things which happened in the past with First Nations Peoples. Canada is working to right wrongs. And Canada has several holidays which honor First Nations Peoples including tomorrow - National Indigenous Peoples Day, which today I am very happy to let you know about this great day.

Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About Qausuittuq National Park

I'm very happy to let you know about Qausuittuq National Park which is a place very few people actually are able to visit, but is an incredible place to learn about for sure! Because Qausuittuq National Park is so far North, you need to be highly experienced, fully self-reliant, and prepared for extreme hazards, unpredictable river crossings, and polar bear encounters to be able to visit this National Park. So, as I wrote, few actually visit, but it is still an amazing place to learn about.

Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About Prime Minister Carney

I have been writing about the amazing National Parks in Canada for the past few weeks - and have more of these beautiful places to write about over the coming weeks, but today I want to write a little about Canada's Prime Minister, Mark Carney. The past few days the G7 has been in the news and the difference between the USA's president and Canada's Prime Minister could not be more clear.

While the USA's massively corrupt, extremely unwell president seemed out of touch, unsure of even where he was, and mumbled quite a bit, Canada's Prime Minister clearly was in France to secure crucial security, industrial, and trade agreements which will make life better for Canadians. I found this excellent outline of all Prime Minister Carney accomplished online and am happy to share it with you today -

As I learned about Prince Albert National Park it seems to me to also be a place where families can visit and create incredible memories every year!

Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About Pacific Rim National Park Reserve

I have been writing about the National Parks in Canada and am about half-way through them. I have not yet had the opportunity to visit these parks for myself, but since I'm a "Lost Canadian", it is important to me to learn about my new country, Canada, so I've been studying on-line information about these wonderful Parks. Since I think National Parks tell you a lot about a country, I wanted to learn about Canada's National Parks - and they clearly tell me Canada cares about and values nature, beauty, respecting First Nations, and conserving incredible places!

When you think about visiting a National Park and swimming, surfing, kayaking, hiking, biking, camping, fishing, and learning about First Nations Peoples, then today's park, Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, is a "must visit" National Park in Canada.

Many National Parks are places where entire families are able to go to learn about and experience the beauty and wonder of nature in all its glory, but some National Parks are place for people who are highly experienced when it comes to safely working their way through rugged, wild nature - Nááts'ihch'oh National Park Reserve is once such place.

Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About Mount Revelstoke National Park

Forty-six years ago I met my husband on an active volcano in Northern California - yes, there is an active volcano in Northern California - Mount Lassen! So, of course, I am quite partial to Mount Lassen National Park in California - it is truly beautiful and one of the wonderful things about Lassen, is even though it is nearly 15,000 feet tall, you are able to hike to the top of Lassen in a relatively easy hike the whole family can enjoy together.

The Canadian National Park I am very happy to let you know about today is Mount Revelstoke National Park in British Columbia and like Mount Lassen, you are able to hike to the top of Mount Revelstoke taking just an easy hike with your entire family!

Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About La Mauricie National Park

I live in and grew up in West Michigan, so I'm very familiar with lakes, forests, beautiful colors in the Fall (the reason so many of us take "color tours" where we drive around enjoying the Fall in all its beauty). So, if you, like me, enjoy trips where you are able to see lakes and forests and even amazing mountains (sadly something we do not have here in West Michigan), then a trip to La Mauricie National Park is a trip you are most certainly going to love!

Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About Kluane National Park

I have not been surprised to learn about the beauty and nature found in the National Parks in Canada - I did expect beauty and nature would be big parts of Canada's National Parks. But I am very happy to learn the National Parks in Canada which are parts of the First Nations' are managed in cooperation with First Nations peoples. This is true with Kluane National Park, which I am happy to let you know about this beautiful place today.
