Today I am happy to share some interesting facts - trivia about Canada with you - some of these made me smile and some made me think - "Wow! Impressive!"

  • There are 20 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Canada. The one with the most interesting name is Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump.
  • Canada is the second-largest country in the world and boasts the longest coastline and most lakes on the planet, holding roughly 20% of the Earth's fresh water.
  • A 20.14 kg lobster is the largest documented lobster caught. It was caught off the coast of Nova Scotia in 1977.
  • Official Phone Line: Canada has an official toll-free government line (1-800-O-Canada) which citizens can call to ask practically anything about the country.
  • The muskox has an inner fur layer finer than cashmere and can be spun into wool which is much warmer than sheep’s wool. It is called qiviut.
  • Canada is home to the largest moose population on Earth, with an estimated 500,000 to 1 million roaming the country.
  • Fifty percent of the world’s polar bears live in Nunavut.
  • Churchill, Manitoba, is famously known as the "Polar Bear Capital of the World".
  • There are about 200 species of mammals in Canada.
  • Canada’s beaver is the second largest rodent in the world, weighing up to 60 pounds. (The largest rodent is the capybara, found in South America and weighing up to 100 pounds.)
