Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About "Dear Canada.CA"

I noticed an interesting opportunity to share the things we love about Canada, and absolutely want to share this opportunity with you. With all the disrespect coming from the white house in the US, this is a great opportunity to share with Canadians the things we in the US appreciate about them - and to apologize as well.

So what is "Dear Canada", here is some information . . .

The "Dear Canada" project is a public-participation initiative led by Canadian media personality Tod Maffin where people from across Canada and around the world write personal messages to the entire country on physical postcards.
Key details of the project include:
  • The Format: Participants write a short, one-time open message to Canada on a physical postcard and mail it in.
  • No Social Media Features: Unlike digital platforms, the project intentionally uses physical mail and features no reply buttons, no edit functions, and no way to delete or alter a submission once sent.
  • The Goal: It aims to encourage slower, more thoughtful, and honest reflection—sharing hopes, fears, apologies, or appreciation for cherished places—as a contrast to fast-paced or divisive online discourse.
You can read more about or view the ongoing submissions through the Dear Canada Postcard Project gallery or community updates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you want real or electronic postcards?
Real ones, made of paper, that you put in the mail.

Can I send a postcard if I don't live in Canada?

Yes, please do! 🙂 We welcome postcards from the United States, our BFFs Australia and New Zealand, and every country in the world. What do I write?

• What you love about this country that you're afraid we're forgetting

• A promise to a future generation of Canadians • An apology, if you've got one • The name of a place you never want to lose • What you'd want a stranger overseas to know about us • A truism about Canada that a headline would never capture • Something you'd want read at Canada's 200th birthday • What home means to you right now, in this moment
And here is the link where you will find all the details. If you are going to send a post card, you have to do so by October 31, 2026, so you only have a few days to participate.
