Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About the Northwest Territories

This "Lost Canadian" grew up in Michigan, so I know what it is like to live in cold and snow . . . or at least I thought I did. If I were to compare Michigan to the Northwest Territory of Canada, Michigan could be said to be nearly "balmy"! I am very happy to share with you some surprising and definitely "chilly" facts with you I have learned about the Northwest Territory.

• Virginia Falls, or Náilicho, is twice the height of Niagara and considered to be the greatest wilderness waterfall on Earth. 
• Great Bear Lake is the size of Vancouver Island and is the largest freshwater body entirely within Canada, it covers almost 12,000 square miles, with enough ice-blue water to supply Canada’s current household needs for 500 years. 
• You will find Wood Bison in the Northwest Territory. Bigger and darker than their southern cousins, the plains bison, they can stand six feet tall at the shoulder and tip the scales at over 2000 pounds. This makes them the largest land animal in the Western Hemisphere.
• Wood Buffalo National Park is the largest protected area in Canada and the second-biggest park on Earth.
• Diamonds are found in the Northwest Territories, making Canada the world’s third-largest diamond producer.
• Called the nanulak, grolar bear, pizzly, and p-grizzle, It's a part-grizzly bear, part polar bear, and is one of the rarest beast on Earth.  
• The Northwest Territories recognizes 11 official languages, including Dene languages, Inuktitut, Inuvialuktun, Inuinnaqtun, English, and French.
• The Northwest Territories is nearly four times the size of Germany, but has a population of only 44,000 people.
• Some of the oldest rocks known to humanity are found in the Northwest Territories.
