As a person who was born in the USA, and who has some ancestors who actually arrived to this country on the Mayflower, I felt joy and relief to see the Supreme Court decide (barely) to uphold the Constitution against the massively corrupt current occupant of the White House. I am sad to see not all the justices voted to do this.
It breaks my heart to watch as this country struggles with decisions from the White House which put immigrants in danger. All of us in North America were immigrants at some point in time - we should welcome those who want to work to make their lives and the lives of their families as good as they can be.
As I think about the past year and a half and the attacks on immigrants in the USA, it makes me SO thankful to know there are places, such as Canada, which look at immigrants in a completely different way. I am SO thankful to know Canada is welcoming "Lost Canadians" - such as myself, my children, and grandchildren - and we have the opportunity to receive citizenship since a great many of our ancestors were Canadians!
When the "world", or at least our corner of the world here in the USA feels so harsh, brutal, unfriendly, it is encouraging to know there are more places in the world where they value others and welcome them because they believe they will add to their country and make it even better.
So, after 48 days of learning about the National Parks in Canada, I am left believing not only is Canada a truly beautiful place because of their Mountains, Waterways, Wildlife, Fossils, etc., but they are truly beautiful because of their people and the values they model for the rest of the world. Thank you Canada!
