Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About New Brunswick

For the past few days this "Lost Canadian" has been learning and writing about Providences and Territories in Canada - today I'm sharing with you what I have learned about New Brunswick. As you travel up the East Coast of Canada, you will find New Brunswick - Quebec and the US State of Maine to the West, the Gulf of St. Lawrence and Northumberland Strait to the east, and the Bay of Fundy to the south. I've learned some very interesting facts about this Providence and believe it is a place I would very much enjoy visiting!

  • New Brunswick is 85% forested.
  • It has the world’s longest covered bridge, and hosts the oldest candy company in Canada.
  • The Bay of Fundy sees 160 billion tons of water fill it twice daily, with tides high enough to submerge a four-story building.
  • Due to the extreme tides, the Saint John River flows backwards twice a day.
  • New Brunswick is Canada's only officially bilingual province, both English and French are used in government and services.
  • It is the ancestral homeland of the Mi’kmaq, Wolastoqey, and Peskotomuhkati peoples.
  • New Brunswick is the world’s third-largest producer of maple syrup and the second-largest in Canada, contributing about 10% of the world’s supply.
  • Northern New Brunswick has a high population of moose, with frequent sightings near roads at dusk.
New Brunswick sounds absolutely beautiful with so many interesting places to see! You will find out more about it at this link.
