Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About Canada's Strength - Their Unity

The toddler-in-chief here in the US, the bully in the White House claims Canada is weak and would not survive without the US. Once again he is talking about making Canada the "51st State" by annexing Canada. Of course, even if I were not a "Lost Canadian", as a Michigander I find this type of talk beyond insulting to Canada and shameful for the supposed "leader" of the US. 

I grew up and live in Michigan, Canada is our close neighbor and friend, and as a "Lost Canadian", Canada is also my family, so this week I'm very happy to write about just some of the things which show Canada's great strength - in no particular order as they all are significant ways Canada shows its great strength - today I'm writing about the unity Canadians showing by how they are responding to trump's tariffs and Carney's response.

Canadians are overwhelmingly rallying behind Prime Minister Mark Carney and his firm refusal to accept the U.S. trade terms, with polls showing broad public support for standing up to Washington. 

Public Support and Polls

Backing the Prime Minister: A recent poll shows 76% of Canadians believe the federal government did the right thing by walking away from the collapsed trade negotiations. 
National Unity: Provincial premiers across political lines—including British Columbia’s David Eby, Manitoba’s Wab Kinew, and Ontario’s Doug Ford—have expressed strong solidarity with Ottawa’s hardline stance. 

Grassroots and Cultural Reactions

Consumer Solidarity: Many Canadians are choosing to boycott American products and buy local goods. Provincial officials in Quebec have urged residents to support domestic businesses as a patriotic duty. 
Stadion Protests: Public anger has spilled into sports arenas, with soccer fans openly booing the U.S. national anthem at Major League Soccer matches in cities like Vancouver and Montreal. 

The Retaliation Plan

Dollar-for-Dollar Countermeasures: Prime Minister Carney announced Canada will match the U.S. 50% tariffs on roughly $20 billion worth of goods with reciprocal duties starting September 8 th. 
Targeted Protection: Ottawa is preparing targeted measures and worker support packages to protect domestic industries—such as steel, dairy, and electronics—while shifting long-term strategy toward diversifying trade away from the U.S. market.

Here in the US we are deeply divided. Those of us who did not vote for the massively corrupt convicted felon/sexual abuser, likely pedophile "toddler-in-chief" clearly look at this country and the things happening here vastly differently than those who voted for him and continue to support him. While the President is supposed to at least try to bring our country together, the current occupant of the white house simply does not care to do so. This division weakens our country.

Canada, on the other hand, is pulling together - even their Conservative leaders are backing their Liberal Prime Minister. Canadians across the country are showing their growing strength by their impressive unity. They are modeling to the world what it looks like to come together and stand up to a bully - they clearly have a strength which at this time those of us in the US can only hope will happen one day.

Canada is absolutely a leader when it comes to unity - and Canada is strong!
