Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About Canada's Strength - Global Leadership in Peace and Technology

The toddler-in-chief here in the US, the bully in the White House claims Canada is weak and would not survive without the US. Of course, even if I were not a "Lost Canadian", as a Michigander I absolutely know the things he says about Canada are completely not true in the least. I grew up and live in Michigan, Canada is our close neighbor and friend, and as a "Lost Canadian", Canada is also my family, so this week I'm very happy to write about just some of the things which show Canada's great strength - in no particular order as they all are significant ways Canada shows its great strength - starting today with how Canada is a Global Leader, especially when it comes to Peace and Technology.

Canada builds its international strength through a combination of diplomatic peacebuilding, multilateral cooperation, and advanced technological capabilities. While traditional military peacekeeping roles have evolved, the country maintains a distinct global footprint focused on stability, innovation, and resource security. 

Peace and Diplomacy

Peace and Stabilization: Through initiatives like the Peace and Stabilization Operations Program, Canada addresses state fragility, hybrid threats, and conflict prevention. 
Global Standing: International sentiment surveys frequently place Canada near the top for having a positive influence on world affairs, supported by its commitment to human rights and democratic stability. 
Multilateral Engagement: Canada works closely through networks like NATO, the G7, and the United Nations to foster international rules and cooperative security. 

Technology and Industrial Strength

Critical Minerals: Canada supplies a large share of the critical minerals required for advanced manufacturing and defense technology, anchoring vital supply chains for allies. 
Innovation Ecosystem: The domestic technology sector contributes specialized tools in artificial intelligence, digital systems, and aerospace which bolster national and collective resilience. 
Strategic Autonomy: Recent policy shifts emphasize strengthening domestic capabilities in energy, food, and high-tech defense production to reduce reliance on volatile foreign supply chains

Global Influence and Defense

When the world thinks about countries which show leadership in the area of contributing to and encouraging peace, Canada is one which absolutely comes to mind. For good reason. Canada is a leader when it comes to peace. And, when it comes to leadership in the area of technology, since Canada is where things like insulin, the artificial pacemaker, the radiation therapy machine which uses radioactive cobalt to destroy deep-seated cancer tumors, the electron microscope, the electric wheelchair, the first commercial jetliner, snowmobile, telephone, plexiglass, electric lightbulb, the zipper and so much more! Canada is clearly a leader when it comes to peace and technology - and Canada is strong!
